The country of Belize is the only English speaking country in Central or South America. It is proudly home to the second largest Barrier Reef in the world, the largest in the Western hemisphere. Belize is also home to the now famous Maya.
Given its Reef and its lush rain forests with their Mayan ruins, it hardly comes as a surprise that many of the tourist attractions in Belize are outside of the Capital, Belize City. One of the Belize City attractions is though, the Museum of Belize. Located in the old prison, one section of the museum is dedicated to its previous life, complete with a cell. The rest of the museum is devoted to the history, natural history and the development of Belize.
Many of the Belize tourist attractions are centered on or around the Cayes. These are the low laying sandy islands dotted along the reef.
